My wellness tip for today's post is a modified protein shake.
This is just one idea from what I have found that works for me as a meal or as an in-between-meal nourishing drink. It is delicious, easy, affordable, and best of all - it is modified to assist absorption.
And remember: "You are what you digest."
Enhanced Protein Drink:
~ 8 to 12 oz. Almond Milk (unsweetened)
~ 3 oz. Plain Kefir (you may use flavored Kefir, like strawberry or blueberry, but Plain has less sugar and 1 more g of protein - see the image below). Kefir adds "12 live and active" cultures, or probiotics, which helps you in so many ways.
~ 1 Tablespoon of chia seeds (they will be ground up once you blend). Chia seed is considered a "superfood" because it has so much goodness - like protein, good fats, fiber, phosphorus, calcium, manganese, magnesium, bit of zinc, some B-vitamins, and potassium (more here). Adding chia to your protein drink is like adding a multivitamin.
~1 or 2 scoops of protein powder. I will make a post later about protein powder options, but for today's protein shake, I used Trader Joe's plain soy isolate protein powder (quickly dissolves).
~ 324 mg of Betaine HCL with Pepsin (in the photo below I used 1/2 of a 628 mg capsule). This Betaine and Pepsin is important because it helps you absorb! I think it is especially helpful for anyone trying to eradicate candidiasis. Just remember to never take it on an empty stomach. Pepsin is an enzyme that starts to break down our food - and the Betaine HCL is Hydrochloric Acid, which is basically stomach acid- and guess what? many folks do not have enough of this acid in their gut. And this acid is needed to help create an optimal "acidic environment" to support digestion. HCL and pepsin together help with the absorption of nutrients and help us to balance the gut bacteria. And because the splash of kefir adds those "12 live and active" cultures, our gut has more of the good guys, or probiotics, to aide digestion and immune function even more.
Blend those five items together and enjoy.
